Went for a week trip to canton of Graubünden and didn´t got bored. I brought back 5 years old memories and confirmed former assumption of Switzerland beiing my favourite Europe country - maybe partly due to it is not EU member - but mostly because of its high snowy peaks, deep forests, picturesque villages, vibrant cities and red trains... I tried to photograph during the days in harsh light when I did some hiking and not all photos came up as I expected altough I shot in RAW. At least I am pleased with the panoramic results and GF1s cropping capability.
Piz Palü with fresh snow
Sun played nice light game on the snowy slopes of Piz Palü and Isla Persa. This mountain was a scene for movie The white hell of Piz Palu mentioned in another movie Inglorious Basterds.
Detail of Vadret da Morteratsch and two summits - white Bellavista and Piz Zupó hiding in the clouds. Fresh snow up above.
Vadret da Morteratsch
Glacial colors always fascinated me - notice the gate of the glacier. The most rapidly shrinking glacier in the Alps.
Her majesty Bernina
The highest point od Eastern Alps - that is Piz Bernina with its 4049 metres a. s. l. and with famous Bincograt (white edge). Hiding in the clouds as well as neigbouring Piz Scerscen (on theright). Shot from Capanna da Tschierva.
View backwards ascending in Val da Morteratsch. Liked the fast moving clouds.
Open part of this nice valley. RAW saved clouds from beiing burnt out.
Scented meadows in Val Fex contrasted with white glaciers
Vadret means "glacier" in Romansh. Shot from Boval hütte, cropped from original 90mm image.
Townhall of Chur
Framed this building with vine leaves.
Old town of Chur
St. Peters church on the left side and townhall in the middle of the picture. This shot composed almost itself.
Townhall door in Chur
Shot this shot just for the extraordinary colors and pattern
View towards main Bergell range, Val Bondasca in the middle - path of huge landslide visible (In December 2011 rock ripped off Piz Cengalo)
Nice to have a break on place like this, isn´t it? Afternoon sun just started prolonging the shapes and I had to capture tis panorama altough the sky was boring.
Old bridge in Vicosoprano
Tried to capture this bridge in the morning same day but sun was on the bad side so I returned in the evening. I liked italian style of the main village in Val Bregaglia.
Late morning sun projected lantern shape on the wall and combination with silent alley prepared this shot.
Main Bergell range
Maybe boring panorama but I really liked the shape of the mountains with late afternoon shades. Shot from Plän Vest. From the left: Spiky Sciora group (Sciora Dafora - Punta Pioda - Ago di Sciora - Sciora Dadent) - Vadrec Bondasca - Pizzi Gemelli - Piz Cengalo - Piz Badile
Gate to paradise?
The way hidden beneath this gate actually leads to graveyard in Soglio.
Italian style houses with slate roofs. It is not far away from there to Italy - just about 1 km.
Lock and accessories on old wooden door in Coltura.
Lej da Silvaplauna
I was really lucky this evening. Went out as the sky dyed and shot this panorama near Surlej bridge. Crap da Saas castle on the left with Corvatsch summit - Silvaplana village on the right.
Calm village by the lake - that is Silvaplana hidden in the shadow of famous St. Moritz. This evening sky indicated good photographic condition.
Crap da Saas
Had nice conditions during the evening and shot this wonderfull castle with Corvatsch in the background. Considered another compositions but finally this one came best altough the horizon is in the middle. I wanted both the lake and clouds to be in the photo.
Lej da Segl
View towards Val Fedoz and village of Isola. Took this shot in the morning and just for the presence of the dead tree in the foreground.
Plaun da Lej
Litttle cliché photo but still I like it altough missed classical tripod to make exposure longer. Lej da Segl from Plaun da Lej resort.
One on the most picturesque villages in Lower Engadin. Planned this shot long before and wanted overcast conditions. Steep ascend to the castle ruin took me up just few minutes as it was starting to rain. Finally I had to work fast as GF1 is not waterproof.
Main square in Guarda
Not just the centre looks like this, whole village is "old times memorial". Paved streets not occupied by cars, many fountains, flowers and sgraffito houses makes Guarda photographic paradise.
Portal in Guarda
One of many similar entrances in Guarda village.
Window in Guarda
Last shot I made in Guarda and more the subject attracted my attention. Hooked flower and window made certain combination for photo.
Ornaments on houses in Guarda range from horses and cows to devils and dragons
