Prague

I suppose you know Prague because it is really famous and nice historical city and serves as the capital of the Czech Republic. Since I moved to Prague to study at CTU I have had more time to explore this wonderful city which I used to think I know. However, the opposite is true - there are so many narrow sreets and hidden sights that knowing them well will require much more time. And that's it! Altough Prague is not that big city there is always something worth exploring and capturing.

It seemed like another dull gray morning in Prague but everything changed for a few minutes once the sun moved to the gap in clouds lighting smoky torches over the Old Town.

Those who want to get to the Charles bridge from the Old town must cross this rush street. Never have I imagined how beautiful contrast can car lights and old tower make until I tried to set up my tripod there. The Samy's 6-blade aperture created rich light stars which i really like here.

Dominants

I usually do not like cliché locations where everyone takes the same shot over and over again but then there is this view of the Prague castle - the most classical one. One of those views where everything is just right in terms of composition to the point when you just can not resist to take the shot again... this time with Sigma 60mm which is absolute beast of a lens! This shot is quite cropped but the sharpness is exceptional and the stars around lights are quite nicely resolved too.

As I was going over the bridge of the Legions, St. Nicolas church and St. Vitus cathedral got quite nicely framed with trees on Střelecký island. Trees were lit by colorful lights as Signal light festival was going on.

Half kilometer long path leading to chateau Hvězda lined with old trees got typical autumnal colors. Long waiting for people to get out of the shot and for sunshine to break through the clouds to add some punch to the colors. Reflections eliminated with polariser.

I do not usually cross Charles Bridge and rather choose one of those less crowded. This time I made an exception to this rule as it was still slightly raining and less people were walking down the city. I was there just on time, with sun already set, to capture last colors of this day.

By the time I came to the Prague Castle storm was over with heavy clouds lit by the evening sun. Wet surroundings prepared vivid colors, especially those spring greens. Forgotten seats made the final detail and interest in foreground and made this classic view at least a bit special.

Silhouettes

Projection on the isle of Kampa during Prague Signal festival. Standing aside of the centre of the projection I realized how I was lucky in composition terms: whole wall giving perspective to the photo, filled with black magical silhouettes merging into pavement and just small lantern reversing it from absolute fiction back to reality.

Prague light festival

Radiant festival in Prague - so nice photographic opportunity and I forgot to take my tripod with me. So I went into the streets just to enjoy the atmosphere and shot only few photos. It took quite a time to capture this image of the Old Town square with huge light box - trying to hold camera still, avoiding people, fixing composition and finally waiting for light to turn towards me, as I hoped it to add some interest into the foreground.

Gunpowder tower

Guarding the entrance into the old town, Gunpowder tower to me is one of the most beautiful towers in Prague. Its surrounding, however, are often crowded with tourists - I tried to get rid of them using multiple exposures and stacking them via median stacking. This technique brings also nice bonus in noisefree image.

I often find myself bored when I walk the Charles bridge full of all those tourists so it is unexceptional for me to take some sideway just to find somehow quieter place. Shooting the bridge from its surroundings brings convencional but still fine opportunities to capture this dominant with some evening or morning light.
